Community Communications was founded by Sheffield Community Enterprise Development Unit (SCEDU) in 1999, to meet the need for a provider of call centre assistance to organisations within the social economy. It began with two part-time staff and a recruitment ethos that all expansion should be through taking on unemployed local people. In October 2000 it became independent of SCEDU and was incorporated at the same time.
Since then, Community Communications has expanded into a multi-disciplinary office-skills provider, capable of taking on a variety of tasks at a regional, national or international level. Yet it has never lost its commitment to providing employment, training and a career strategy for local unemployed people.
Community Communications commitment to developing the skills of its staff has had several very positive outcomes. It has allowed the organisation to offer a wide range of complimentary off-site office skills to its clients, such as: market research; database design; data input and mail shots. This commitment to personal development also helps the organisation to retain its staff, thereby providing a solid core of expertise on which to develop client specific support packages.
Using its work with a range of social economy and voluntary groups, to whom it is still committed, as a launch pad, Community Communications has developed a wide client base within the business community. Its staff are experienced in and capable of, rapidly assimilating new information, procedures and working practices to suit the specific needs of any client.
Community Communications is an extremely adaptable organisation in terms of new projects. It can provide its clients with dedicated off site support, on a temporary, full or part-time basis.
